Post Thanksgiving

Ok, I'm back from my hiatus to the blogworld...

It's been a while since I have sat down and written anything for the blog. I've been meaning to post some stuff for quite sometime, but for some reason (read lazy) been putting it off...and recently, the not-so-very-pleasant remarks from the few people (one or two) who visit this blog hoping for some new posts, motivated me to update. Although there is not any particular reason for this inactivity, I would very much like to pretend that my excruciatingly busy grad. student life keeps me so occupied that I dont find time to get a life or even to update my blog :-( .....but then c'mon, who am i kidding here. Grad. student life is not that miserable and infact it has been pretty good for me so far and I dont have much to complain about.... but at the same time when I was thinking about things that I am thankful for, I couldnt think of many !! So, I thought I'd post this cartoon that quite sums up what grad. students feel over thanksgiving...

Online drive

If you have a Gmail account and you dont know what to do with the 1GB space...here is something that you can do with it. Gmail Drive allows to use your Gmail account as a storage medium and enables you to save and retrieve files stored on your GMail account directly from inside Windows Explorer. The cool things is, GMail Drive literally adds a new drive to your computer under the My Computer folder, where you can create new folders, copy and drag'n'drop files to.

I haven't tried that myself yet...but it would be interesting to see how it works. The only thing to think about is that, my files would be stored on Google's server..and I dont know how good that'll be !!

Every Dawg has its day

Unfortunately for Georgia it was not the Bulldog, but the Smokey which is the Tennessee mascot (also a damned dog) that had its day, this weekend. The Georgia Bulldogs are increasingly playing like the Indian cricket team these days and are becoming very unpredictable. We had a big win last weekend against LSU and the very next weekend we get thrashed up badly by Tennessee... pretty much the same way the indian team plays. It's a different story that the indian team is working on improving their record and are becoming more predictable these days - they are now losing consistently !!! Both the teams also had another similarity this weekend - close refereeing calls. There were a couple of close calls that went against georgia this weekend, including one touchdown decision....and the indian team had their part of misery in the form of a bad LBW decision against sehwag in the test match. If it goes this way, I guess I would be losing interest in both the teams...

Sitcom contest...yeah, right !!!

If I got a penny for everytime I watched a Friends, Sienfeld, Everybody loves Raymond or the other sitcom reruns on TV, I would be a millionaire by now !! Man, I really wish there was something like that or atleast some contest based on these sitcoms that would make me rich. When I think about how much time I have wasted every weekday evenings, sitting on my couch and watching these sitcoms over and over, I feel compelled to come up with some kind of justification for it. What makes me wonder is the fact that even though I have watched most of the episodes of all these sitcoms atleast 2-3 times and know what exactly is going to happen next, I am able to have a good laugh watching them yet again. Is it simply because I am too bored and dont have anything better to do at these times or are these sitcoms really that good ? Whatever the case may be, I strongly feel that TBS has to be banned and that will be the only way to stop me from wasting anymore of my prime evening time. If they are not going to ban TBS, atleast they should ban all the commercials....you know, I hate to watch these sitcoms between commercials.

Tigers trampled, Tennessee Volunteers..

With the tigers down and the Vols around the corner, it's two exciting weeks of football for our home team, the Georgia Bulldogs. The way we played against LSU tigers was the exact opposite of what most us had predicted before the game started. Having lost to the tigers the last two times we met and with the mediocre wins against other teams this season, the odds were obviously stacked up against us. But we proved that we were not content doing just enough to win and showed that we are in serious contention for the national title. The bulldogs ran over the LSU defense and scored 45-16, with big touchdown passes from David Greene. Needless to say, it was one amazing game to watch....and the wait for the next game has already begun. The only question now being, is tennessee still ready to volunteer ??

Comedy Central

The first of the three presidential debates between George.W.Bush and John kerry is scheduled for today in Miami. I'm guessing that today's debate would make one hell of a show to watch !!! There are already a lots of jokes going around in different late night shows about these debates and I am waiting to see what's going to happen and how the poll ratings are going to shift after these debates. Here are a few really good ones from the late night shows,

"John Kerry will debate President Bush in Florida. Right now Kerry has a bad cold, you can barely understand what he's saying, so it looks like it should be a fair fight. In fact his voice is so bad, doctors have advised him to rest his throat and only give one position on each issue for awhile." --Jay Leno

"The first debate will actually take place in Miami, Florida. Boy, first all those hurricanes, now Bush and Kerry ... Haven't these people suffered enough?" --Jay Leno

"Well, the first debate between President Bush and John Kerry takes place Thursday in Miami. And today, thousands of local residents began evacuating." --David Letterman

"Both candidates now are trying to lower expectations for how they'll do on the debates. For example, Kerry tried to lower expectations for himself by saying Bush has never lost a debate and that he is a formidable opponent. Then Bush lowered expectations for himself when he said, 'Hey, what does "formable" mean?'" --Jay Leno

"Are you all ready for the presidential debate this Thursday? It's kind of like "The Apprentice" except WE get to fire somebody." --Jay Leno


So, if you haven't had a good laugh in a while, tune in your TV to one of these debates !!

Toying around or here to stay ?

Well..first off, I have to say (or reiterate) that this blog is about "nothing". So, dont tell me that I didnt warn you, before you spend time reading my posts !!

Naturally you might wonder if this is going to be about nothing, then why the heck am I even blogging in the first place ?? There are quite a few reasons to it, the foremost being; I've been reading many blogs for a while now and I decided that I should start a blog of my own. Secondly, I realised that I really dont have to be a great writer to publish my thoughts/views on the web. Thirdly, when I say that my blog is pretty much going to be about nothing, it gives me the freedom to scribble about anything. Finally, you wouldn't want to know any of my reasons if you are also a fellow phd student stuck with your research and dont have anything better to do!!

So, here I am ... one more entity in the blogging world. I plan to update as and when I come across something interesting. In the interest of making this post not so boring, I would like to stop now with a cliched statement that it will be for the time to say whether my blog is here to stay or am I just toying around ?
